AdvisorShares Continues Their Support of Just TRYAN it at the 6th Annual Kids Triathlon

AdvisorShares employees once again volunteered at the JUST TRYAN IT's 6th annual kids’ triathlon which is open to all children, ages 6-14. Over 400 Washington D.C. area children swam, biked and ran to raise money for JUST TRYAN IT, a non-profit foundation which supports families fighting childhood cancer. All funds raised are donated to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Donations support families by easing their financial burdens and paying expenses such as mortgages, utility bills, and babysitters, creating more time and energy to focus on helping their children get better.

The day started out cool and breezy, but that did not stop the young racers from plunging into the pool for the first leg of the annual triathlon! In addition to being a major sponsor, we had AS employees there unloading bikes from cars, helping at transitions, and coordinating all photography for the event. The day quickly warmed up as did the racers. Previous years’ course records were broken, personal bests were bested, and at least a few life-long triathletes were made!

The post-race party featured treats from many local restaurants, along with a DJ, bounce castle, games, and celebrations of the victors.

As always, the strength and perseverance of these kids amazed our volunteers. Regardless of time or placement, every racer crossed the finish line with a triumphant smile (along with some great poses for the cameras). So many of the families there seemed to have a personal connection to someone who’s family has had these struggles and benefited from the amazing work done by JTI.

AdvisorShares continues to be a proud sponsor of JUST TRYAN IT. To learn more about young Ryan Darby and the work of the non-profit JUST TRYAN IT foundation that helps families of children with cancer focus their attention on their family and on beating cancer, please visit http://justtryanit.com.
