(GIVE) Global Echo ETF

Overview

How GIVE Works

The AdvisorShares Global Echo ETF (NYSE: GIVE) is a broadly diversified actively managed ETF with a focus on Sustainable Investment themes, that seeks to achieve long-term capital appreciation with an emphasis on absolute (positive) returns and low sensitivity to a blend of traditional financial market indices such as the S&P 500 Index, over a full market cycle, by allocating to different investment strategies and asset classes through four sub-advisors (portfolio managers).

GIVE is designed as a core allocation that proactively seeks opportunities in Sustainable Investment themes, including publically traded companies who have a proactive and meaningful sustainability mandate, as well as organizations that may provide technological, socially and environmentally benefit the earth, with focus on themes such as water, clean energy, innovation and other sustainable themes across all asset classes.

GIVE Principal Investment Strategies

GIVE seeks to achieve its investment objective by primarily investing in a variety of securities, including:

  • US Equities
  • American Depository Receipts (ADRs)
  • Fixed Income Securities
  • Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs)

GIVE focuses primarily on long positions in equity securities, including common and preferred stock of U.S. companies, convertible securities, ADRs and ETFs, but will also tactically short ETFs.

GIVE is generally not constrained among the other types of equity securities in which it may invest. It will typically maintain an allocation to both equity and fixed income oriented securities with the minimum allocation to fixed income of 15% and a maximum allocation to fixed income of 65%. It may invest in companies of any size (from small-cap to mid-cap to large-cap) and in any style (from growth to value). GIVE combines the attributes of alternative investment strategies with the shareholder features of an ETF.

Each of the 4 portfolio management teams will determine whether to buy or sell an investment for the GIVE portfolio by applying their investment strategy.

The Sustainable Investment Opportunity

Sustainable investment opportunities take into consideration environmental sustainability, social responsibility and corporate governance (commonly referred to as “ESG”) aspects into the investment decision making process process. Sustainable investing integrates ESG factors into investment analysis, stock selection and active ownership practices in the belief that these factors can improve long-term risk management and risk adjusted portfolio returns.

Sustainable Investing (SI) differs from Social Responsible Investing (SRI) because SRI tends to focus on the negative – what not to invest in, whereas SI is defined positively: investing in companies that meet positive environmental, social and governance (i.e., sustainability) criteria. SI takes a more proactive stance: the full integration of ESG criteria into investment decisions is a strategy for identifying better-managed, more forward-thinking companies with better long-term financial prospects.

A Unique Opportunity - The Global Echo Foundation

Today’s global issues require a new approach to problem solving. The Global Echo Foundation, is a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation co-founded by Philippe Cousteau Jr., to provide funding solutions to many of the challenges facing the world community from social issues impacting women and children to environmental conservation. The Foundation will also focus on supporting social entrepreneurship.

The Global Echo Foundation will employ a blended model of strategic investment and sustainable philanthropy, to create a financial approach that will help drive resources to solving some of the world’s biggest environmental and social dilemmas.

The Global Echo Foundation is focused on providing funding and support in three main areas:

  1. Investing in the lives of women and children – In developing nations around the world, the health and well-being of local communities and economies often depends on the efforts of women and mothers. By investing in programs that support employment opportunities and health initiatives for women, family and community health can be dramatically strengthened and improved.
  2. Supporting social entrepreneurship - Innovation is an essential element in building a brighter future. Helping support and create a system that encourages entrepreneurial enterprises can help accelerate positive change.
  3. Encouraging environmental sustainability globally - Many regional and local communities are exploring viable long-term solutions to pressing issues impacting the health and wellbeing of people and the planet. In many cases adequate funding is the biggest obstacle to success.

0.40% of the GIVE ETF management fee will be contributed to the Global Echo Foundation. Additional amounts will be contributed by AdvisorShares to support Philippe’s educational efforts and in addition, AdvisorShares will contribute additional basis points to charitable causes.
