(GIVE) Global Echo ETF

How GIVE Works

The AdvisorShares Global Echo ETF (NYSE Arca: GIVE) is a broadly diversified actively managed ETF with a focus on Sustainable and Impact investment opportunities. GIVE seeks to achieve long-term capital appreciation with an emphasis on absolute (positive) returns and low sensitivity to a blend of traditional financial market indices such as the S&P 500 Index, Barclays Aggregate Bond Index and MSCI EAFE Index, over a full market cycle, by allocating to different investment strategies and asset classes through four sub-advisors (“portfolio managers”).

GIVE is designed as a core allocation that proactively seeks opportunities in Sustainable Investment themes while reducing volatility. The fund will allocate capital to equity and debt securities of publically traded companies who have a proactive and meaningful sustainability mandate, as well as securities that may technologically, socially and environmentally impact the earth positively, with a focus on themes such as water, clean energy, innovation and other sustainable themes as defined by the portfolio managers. Additionally, AdvisorShares regularly contributes a portion of assets under management to Philippe Cousteau Jr.’s Global Echo Foundation.

Why Invest in GIVE?

  • Help Make the World a Better Place - 40 basis points (0.40%) on total assets is regularly contributed to Philippe Cousteau Jr’s Global Echo Foundation, to help it achieve its goal of promoting increased sustainable development in three core areas: by encouraging environmental sustainability globally, supporting entrepreneurship through micro-enterprise, and investing in the lives of women and children. Additional amounts will be contributed by AdvisorShares to support Philippe’s educational efforts and in addition, AdvisorShares will contribute additional basis points to charitable causes.
  • For Diversification - GIVE is designed to provide a less correlated return stream to broad market indexes that can be considered part of an investor’s core asset allocation.
  • For Access to Institutional Money Managers - All four portfolio managers are considered experts in the Impact and Sustainable investing genres, including Reynders, McVeigh and Baldwin Brothers who previously have provided their expertise only to high net worth individuals and institutional investors.

GIVE Principal Investment Strategies

GIVE seeks to achieve its investment objective by primarily investing in a variety of securities, including:

  • US Equities
  • American Depository Receipts (ADRs)
  • Fixed Income Securities
  • Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs)

GIVE focuses primarily on long positions in equity securities, including common and preferred stock of U.S. companies, convertible securities, ADRs and ETFs, but will also tactically short ETFs.

GIVE is generally not constrained among the other types of equity securities in which it may invest. It will typically maintain an allocation to both equity and fixed income oriented securities with the minimum allocation to fixed income of 15% and a maximum allocation to fixed income of 65%. It may invest in companies of any size (from small-cap to mid-cap to large-cap) and in any style (from growth to value). GIVE combines the attributes of alternative investment strategies with the shareholder features of an ETF.

Each of the 4 portfolio management teams will determine whether to buy or sell an investment for the GIVE portfolio by applying their investment strategy.

5 Key Attributes

  1. Focus on Sustainability & Making an Impact - With dwindling global natural resources, the threat of global warming and various socio economic issues facing the world, GIVE will provide a unique public/private partnership that can proactively make a difference with its capital allocations.
  2. Diversified Exposure - GIVE invests in a diversified portfolio of securities such as U.S. equities, (both common and preferred), exchange traded funds, American Depository Receipts and fixed income securities.
  3. Multi-Manager - GIVE is managed by four portfolio managers with many years of sustainable investment experience. A portion of GIVE’s assets is allocated to each manager who then employs their respective investment strategies.
  4. Multi-Strategy - GIVE’s portfolio managers employ global long equity, domestic long fixed income, and global long/short strategies all with a sustainability and impact investing focus.
  5. Global Echo Foundation - Co-founded by Philippe Cousteau Jr., its mission is to promote sustainable development across a number of different themes, including social issues impacting women and children, environmental education, and entrepreneurship. 0.40% of assets under management is contributed to the Global Echo Foundation to help support its mission. Philippe will serve as an educational resource to the investment community on impact and sustainable themes.

The Sustainable Investment Opportunity

Sustainable investment opportunities take into consideration environmental sustainability, social responsibility and corporate governance (commonly referred to as “ESG”) aspects into the investment decision making process. Sustainable investing integrates ESG factors into investment analysis, stock selection and active ownership practices in the belief that these factors can improve long-term risk management and risk adjusted portfolio returns.

Sustainable Investing (SI) differs from Social Responsible Investing (SRI) because SRI tends to focus on the negative – what not to invest in, whereas SI is defined positively: investing in companies that meet positive environmental, social and governance (i.e., sustainability) criteria. SI takes a more proactive stance: the full integration of ESG criteria into investment decisions is a strategy for identifying better-managed, more forward-thinking companies with better long-term financial prospects.

A Unique Opportunity - The Global Echo Foundation

Today’s global issues require a new approach to problem solving. The Global Echo Foundation, is a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation co-founded by Philippe Cousteau Jr., to provide funding solutions to many of the challenges facing the world community from social issues impacting women and children to environmental conservation. The Foundation will also focus on supporting social entrepreneurship.

The Global Echo Foundation will employ a blended model of strategic investment and sustainable philanthropy, to create a financial approach that will help drive resources to solving some of the world’s biggest environmental and social dilemmas.

The Global Echo Foundation is focused on providing funding and support in three main areas:

  1. Investing in the lives of women and children – In developing nations around the world, the health and well-being of local communities and economies often depends on the efforts of women and mothers. By investing in programs that support employment opportunities and health initiatives for women, family and community health can be dramatically strengthened and improved.
  2. Supporting social entrepreneurship - Innovation is an essential element in building a brighter future. Helping support and create a system that encourages entrepreneurial enterprises can help accelerate positive change.
  3. Encouraging environmental sustainability globally - Many regional and local communities are exploring viable long-term solutions to pressing issues impacting the health and wellbeing of people and the planet. In many cases adequate funding is the biggest obstacle to success.

40 basis points (0.40%) on total assets is regularly contributed to the Global Echo Foundation. Additional amounts will be contributed by AdvisorShares to support Philippe’s educational efforts and in addition, AdvisorShares will contribute additional basis points to charitable causes.
